Wellness Exams

Regularly scheduled “check ups” are important in the medical care of your children.  In addition to monitoring growth and development and providing vaccinations, these visits are intended to address your concerns.*  They are typically scheduled as a 30 minute appointment, and are scheduled at least six to eight weeks in advance.

We follow the American Academy of Pediatrics' (AAP) recommendations for Physical Exams for Children** which is as follows:
  • Within 24-48 hours of discharge from the hospital.
  • 3-5 Days
  • 1 Month
  • 2 Months
  • 4 Months
  • 6 Months
  • 9 Months
  • 12 Months
  • 15 Months
  • 18 Months
  • 24 Months
  • 30 Months
  • 3 Year
  • Once a year, every year after the age of 3.
There are developmental questionnaires that we request you complete for your child between the ages of four months and five years.  If your children are in this age range, we politely request you arrive early for your appointment to complete the questionnaire in the office.  You may also take the questionnaires home with you and complete them before your arrival if you prefer.

*While the Wellness Exam is an opportunity to address any concerns you may have, this does NOT include acute illness, injury, or other concerns.  If there is an acute illness, injury, or other concern with your child that we have not previously addressed that may have warranted a separate office visit, and the care extends beyond the realm of a Routine Wellness Exam, an office visit may be billed in addition to the Wellness Exam.  This is done in accordance with the American Medical Association's Current Procedural Terminology coding guidelines.

**The AAP recommends SEVERAL Wellness Exams in the first two to three years of life.  These should be covered by your insurance plan; however, it is in your best interest to contact your insurance company to inquire whether or not ALL of the recommended exams will be covered.  Some plans do have limitations as to the number of Wellness Exams allowed each year.  If the exam is not covered by your plan, you may be responsible for any/all charges incurred.
